"The need for voice user experiences is real" Cheryl Platz 2017
2020 has bought the whole world to a standstill. The way we, as humans, are changing the way we live our lives, due to the different restrictions and difficulties we face ourselves in. However through all the negativity, it has bought new developments within many area's of technology, one of which being voice.
Let me chuck in a few facts and figures to start things off.
The "Audrey" system became the first ever voice recognition system, developed by Bell Laboratories in 1952. It was able to recognise numbers from a single voice.
According to a 2016 study from Cornell University, dictation through speech is at least 3x faster than typing.
In 2019, smart speaker owners used voice requests for an average of 9.4 different tasks a week. In 2020, that had risen to 10.8 different tasks. Voicebot.ai
Voice is here and it's here to stay. It's going to transform the way people use products and tech. There will be more of a connection between humans and technology, coming from detailed research on human conversations and learning how we speak to each other whilst incorporating that knowledge for voice technology.
This is what I want to find out more about. I want to ask questions, start conversations and discover how to design and create better voice user experiences.
This blog will document my journey, research and findings along the way.
